Your planting plan, Tamara

2069 W Ivanhoe St, Chandler, AZ 85224

Here's the updated plan from our walk. Color and pollinator plants out front, plus bamboo, a kumquat, and two twisted myrtles for shade and screening in the back. This replaces the earlier proposal, so everything we're doing is on this page.

Front yard

Three beds, filled in with groundcover, color, and plants for hummingbirds and bees.

Bed by the house

The bed with the pygmy palms, up against the house.

Torch Glow bougainvillea in bloom

Torch Glow Bougainvillea

3 × 5 gallon

Torch Glow is a compact, upright bougainvillea. It grows into a tidy column around 4 to 5 feet tall instead of throwing long thorny canes everywhere, so it stays neat next to the house and walkways.

It flowers in bright magenta from spring through fall and loves the heat. It takes less water than plants that aren't desert adapted, and a cold snap may nip the tips, which grow right back in spring.

3 × $85 plant + planting$255
Yellow dot groundcover

Yellow Dot

2 × 5 gallon

Yellow dot is a low groundcover with glossy green leaves and small yellow daisy flowers through most of the year. It spreads out and knits together, covering bare ground and keeping the soil shaded and cool, which is good for everything growing around it.

A hard frost can burn it back in winter. If that happens, leave it alone until spring and it fills back in.

2 × $85 plant + planting$170

Front bed by the street

The bed with the single palm, along the sidewalk.

Yellow dot groundcover

Yellow Dot

3 × 5 gallon

Three more yellow dot here to cover the open rock under the palm and tie this bed in with the one by the house. Once they fill in, this bed goes from bare rock to green with yellow flowers most of the year.

3 × $85 plant + planting$255

Front right bed

The bed on the right side by the utility box and the hedge.

Front right bed by the utility box
Chuparosa with red tubular flowers

Chuparosa

2 × 5 gallon

A Sonoran native with green stems and red tubular flowers from winter into spring, right when hummingbirds need them most. It grows into a loose mound about 3 to 4 feet tall and wide.

2 × $85 plant + planting$170
Moringa tree

Moringa

1 × 5 gallon

Moringa is a fast growing tree with leaves that are some of the most nutritious greens you can grow. You can pick them fresh for salads, smoothies, or cooking. It loves our heat and will grow quickly once summer hits.

Left alone it can get tall, so I recommend cutting it back each year to keep it at a size where you can reach the leaves. A hard freeze can knock it back, but it regrows from the trunk in spring.

Plant + planting$85
Globe mallow with orange flowers

Globe Mallow

1 × 5 gallon

A native with soft silvery leaves and bright orange cup shaped flowers in spring. Native bees love it. It grows about 3 feet tall and wide, and a good cut back after it finishes blooming keeps it full.

Plant + planting$85
Blackfoot daisy with white flowers

Blackfoot Daisy

1 × 5 gallon

A low, mounding native, about a foot tall, covered in small white daisies with yellow centers for most of the year. The flowers have a light honey scent. It does best with good drainage and doesn't want to be overwatered.

Plant + planting$85
Lavender in bloom

Lavender

2 × 5 gallon

Two more lavender to go with the one already in this bed. Silver gray foliage, purple flower spikes in spring, and the smell every time you brush past it. It wants full sun and soil that drains well, which this bed has.

2 × $85 plant + planting$170

Backyard

Screening along the fence, fruit by the pool, and shade under the sail.

Back fence

Against the fence in the open area of the backyard.

Back fence where the bamboo goes
Clumping bamboo

Oldhamii Bamboo

2 × 15 gallon

Oldhamii is a clumping bamboo, not a running type, so it grows up in a tight cluster instead of spreading across the yard. It gets tall, eventually 20 feet or more, and makes a lush green screen above the fence line.

It's one of the thirstier plants on this list, so it will want more water than the rest of the yard, especially its first summer.

2 × $300 plant + planting$600

Pool area

Between the oleanders by the pool.

Pool area spot for the kumquat
Kumquat tree with fruit

Kumquat

1 × 15 gallon

Kumquat is a small citrus tree with glossy evergreen leaves and little orange fruit that you eat whole, skin and all. The skin is sweet and the inside is tart. The fruit ripens through winter.

It stays a manageable size and handles cold better than most citrus, so it's a great fit for a spot like this by the pool.

Under the shade sail

Along the wall under the shade sail.

Wall under the shade sail
Twisted myrtle

Twisted Myrtle

2 × 15 gallon

Twisted myrtle is an evergreen with small, curled, glossy leaves that smell great when you brush them. We're going with the biggest size we can get so you start with as much shade as possible.

They fill out into a dense canopy and can be grown as small trees or left fuller as large shrubs. Either way they'll give this area shade year round, since they keep their leaves in winter.

Before and after we plant

Irrigation

Irrigation is not included in this quote, and it needs to be in place at every planting spot before we get there. Each plant on this list needs a water source at its location on planting day.

If you need help getting lines run, Garrett is who I work with for irrigation: 480-678-9121.

Rock

Rock removal is not included. We'll dig through the rock where each plant goes, but clearing rock out of any areas is not part of this job.

How we plant

We backfill every hole with your native soil and a small amount of compost, so the roots learn to grow into the soil they'll live in for the long haul. Then we lay compost on top of the soil around each plant instead of working it in, the same way nature builds soil from the top down.

We plant the trees and bamboo first, then everything else.

Feeding

Since you're already on our fertilizing program, the new plants will get fed on your regular visits along with everything else. That compost and liquid biology is what helps new plantings root in faster and handle their first summer.

90 day warranty

Because you're on our fertilizing program, everything we plant is covered by a 90 day warranty. If a plant fails in that window, we'll replace it.
