Most Plant Problems Start Before the Plant Ever Has a Chance
In Phoenix, planting is not just digging a hole and dropping something in. The wrong plant, the wrong location, poor soil, or incorrect planting depth can set a plant up to struggle from day one.
Wrong Plant
A plant may look good at the nursery, but that does not mean it belongs in every yard or every exposure.
Wrong Spot
Sun, shade, reflected heat, drainage, and space all matter more than most people realize.
Planted Too Deep
Planting depth is one of the most common problems we see, especially with trees and larger plants.
Poor Soil Support
If the soil is compacted or inactive, even the right plant can struggle to establish properly.
Our planting service is built around long-term success, not just getting plants in the ground.
Our Approach
We Don’t Just Plant… We Set It Up to Thrive
Everything we do is focused on giving your plants the best chance to establish, grow, and perform long-term in Phoenix conditions.
Right Plant
We help you choose plants that actually belong in your yard and your conditions.
Right Placement
Sun exposure, spacing, and long-term growth are all considered before anything goes in the ground.
Correct Planting Depth
We make sure plants are not buried too deep, which is one of the most common causes of failure.
Soil Support
We improve the soil around the plant so roots can establish and grow properly.
When planting is done correctly from the start, everything else becomes easier.

Calculate your planting costsIrrigation installation or repair is not included. Homeowners are responsible for making sure irrigation is properly set up and ready before planting begins. Additional costs may apply if we encounter underground obstacles, difficult digging conditions, removals, buried irrigation or electrical lines, concrete, roots, caliche, or other unexpected site conditions.
Important Details
Things To Know Before We Plant
Plant establishment in Arizona depends on more than just getting a plant in the ground. Heat, alkaline soil, dry air, planting depth, and consistent watering all play a role. These details help set clear expectations before the project begins and help give your new plants the best chance of long-term success.
Irrigation Must Be Ready
Irrigation installation, dripline work, timer programming, and irrigation repairs are not included in standard planting pricing unless specifically listed in the quote.
Before planting begins, your irrigation should already be installed, functioning properly, and capable of deeply watering the new plants. This is especially important during the first few weeks after planting.
If you are unsure whether your irrigation is ready, we can review it before planting and recommend adjustments. If a plant declines or dies because it was not watered properly, that is not considered a planting issue.
Underground Conditions & Site Prep
Homeowners are responsible for calling 811 and confirming the area is safe to dig before work begins. If we are told an area is clear, we proceed based on that direction.
Planting prices assume standard digging conditions. Additional charges may apply if we encounter buried irrigation lines, electrical lines, concrete, roots, caliche, large rocks, buried debris, or other unexpected obstacles.
Removal of old plants, trees, gravel, roots, concrete, or other site preparation work is quoted separately on a case-by-case basis.
Plant Warranty Policy
Plant warranty is only available for clients enrolled in The Garden Nerd’s monthly fertilizing and soil-feeding service. Because proper watering is critical in Arizona, warranty coverage is only available when the irrigation setup is appropriate for the plant, location, season, and soil conditions. We do not warranty plants when irrigation is missing, inconsistent, improperly placed, or not watering deeply enough for proper establishment.
