Your updated planting plan, Bess
10137 East Wavelength Ave, Mesa, AZHere's the plan updated from this morning's visit. Most of it stays the same as before. The changes are a second skyflower at the shade structure, a new privet out front, and a few plants we're moving around in the backyard at no charge. Everything below is organized by area with a photo of each spot.
Front yard
Vines on the pillars, red yucca in the bed, and a new privet to replace the old one.
Front pillars and bed
The front entry with the pillars.

Purple Lilac Vine
3 × 5 gallonOne vine on each pillar. Purple lilac vine is an evergreen vine with dark green leaves, and from late winter into spring it covers itself in clusters of small purple flowers. It twines up and around the pillars without getting overly heavy, so it softens the entry without taking it over.
Red Yucca
4 × 5 gallonRed yucca isn't a true yucca. It forms a grassy clump about 2 to 3 feet tall with no spines, and from spring through summer it sends up tall stalks of coral red flowers that hummingbirds love. It takes less water than plants that aren't desert adapted and holds up to full sun and reflected heat.
Front privet
Replacing the privet shown here.

No charge: removing the old privet.
Privet
1 × 5 gallonWe'll pull the old privet and plant a new one in its place so it matches the rest. Privet is an evergreen shrub with glossy leaves that fills in and holds its shape well.
Backyard
Color around the shade structure and coverage along each of the walls.
Shade structure
Around the shade structure in the backyard.

Yellow Canna Lily
3 × 5 gallonCanna lilies bring big tropical leaves and bright yellow flowers through the warm months, growing about 4 to 5 feet tall. They like a little more water than the rest of the yard. In winter, cut the old stalks down and they come right back in spring.
Skyflower
2 × 5 gallonOne on each post of the shade structure. Skyflower gives you soft blue to violet flowers and fills in around the posts over time, adding color right where you sit.
Pool wall
Along the wall by the pool.

Tangerine Crossvine
1 × 5 gallonTangerine crossvine is an evergreen vine that climbs on its own and covers a trellis or wall in glossy green leaves. In spring it puts out clusters of orange trumpet flowers that hummingbirds go straight for. It handles full sun and reflected heat off a block wall.
Purple Heart
4 × 5 gallonPurple heart is a trailing groundcover with deep purple leaves and small pink flowers. It spreads along the base of the wall and gives a strong color contrast against the green. A frost can knock it back, but it returns in spring.
Road wall
Along the wall that faces the road.

No charge: transplanting the existing hopseed to the corner, and moving the two boxwoods over to the pool equipment wall with the others.
Hopseed
3 × 5 gallonHopseed is evergreen, grows fast and upright, and fills in to a solid green screen. It can reach 10 to 12 feet or be kept shaped to whatever height you like.
Pink Hibiscus
2 × 5 gallonBig tropical flowers through the warm months on glossy green leaves. Hibiscus is frost tender, so a cold night can damage the tips, but it grows back with the heat.
Cape Plumbago
2 × 5 gallonCape plumbago is a mounding shrub, about 4 to 6 feet, with sky blue flowers for most of the year. Butterflies love it. A frost can burn it back, and it recovers quickly in spring.
Pool equipment wall
Along the wall by the pool equipment.

No charge: the two boxwoods from the road wall get moved here, next to the ones already by the pool equipment.

Skyflower Vine
1 × 5 gallonA vine with blue to violet flowers that adds soft color and climbs to help cover the wall.
Myoporum
1 × 5 gallonMyoporum is a tough evergreen with bright green leaves and small white flowers in spring. It fills in fast and handles heat well.
Desert Willow
1 × 15 gallonA native tree with long narrow leaves and orchid-like pink and purple flowers from late spring through summer. Bees and hummingbirds love it. It grows to about 15 to 20 feet with an open, airy canopy that gives filtered shade, and it takes less water than trees that aren't desert adapted.
Before and after we plant
Before planting day
Drip lines need to be checked and working at every planting spot, and SRP needs to mark the dig spots before we get there. You're handling the rock removal where we'll be planting.
Scope of work
Everything we're doing is listed on this page. If something isn't on here, it's not covered in our scope of work.
Included at no charge
Removing the honeysuckle from the trellises where the tangerine crossvine is going, pulling the old privet, transplanting the existing hopseed to the corner of the road wall, and moving the two boxwoods to the pool equipment wall. Out front, the gravel stays and we'll put wood mulch around the base of each new plant.
Backyard mulch
One cubic yard of mulch spread around the perimeter of the backyard. Mulch shades the soil, holds moisture, and feeds the soil life as it breaks down.
How we plant
We backfill every hole with your native soil and a small amount of compost, so the roots learn to grow into the soil they'll live in for the long haul. Then we lay compost on top of the soil around each plant instead of working it in, the same way nature builds soil from the top down.
Monthly fertilizing
New plants root in faster and handle their first summer better when the soil is alive. Each month we spray a liquid blend of compost, biology, and organic nutrients across the yard, and three times a year we add compost. After every visit you get a recap video showing what we did and how things are looking.
Comes with a 90 day warranty. If you're on the fertilizing program, everything we plant is covered for 90 days. If a plant fails in that window, we'll replace it.
